1984. Orwell wrote that Airstrip 1 would ally with Eurasia against Eastasia, then ally with Eastasia against Eurasia. Back and forth. And every time the ally and enemy changed, Winston Smith had to rewrite all the newspaper morgues and history books. It took me 50 years to understand 1984. I thought Eastasia was the PRC. NO. In 1948 (when Orwell was writing) there was no PRC. Eastasia was Russia and Eurasia was the Central Powers.
In 1800, Airstrip 1 allied with Russia against Napoleonic France. In the Crimean War, Airstrip 1 allied with France and the Ottomans against Russia. In WWI, Airstrip 1 allied with Russia against Germany and the Ottomans. After WWI, Airstrip 1 allied with Germany against the USSR. Then (Orwell skipped this bit) Eurasia and Eastasia joined as allies against Airstrip 1 in 1939, but not for long. In 1941, Eurasia attacked Eastasia, and Airstrip 1 was allied with Eastasia against Eurasia. Then, after WWII was over, Airstrip 1 allied with Eurasia against Eastasia, and this has remained in effect, even after Eastasia broke up into a bunch of countries, many of which joined with Eurasia against Russia, which was all that was left of Eastasia. Only now, the PRC has risen to become the strongest power, and Eastasia really is Eastasia, since Russia, having been rejected and demonised by the West, have decided to get in bed with the PRC. Clever people, those Russkis, picking the right side of history.
And now Russia will move to protect ethnic Russians in the former USSR, starting with Georgia (were those Russians growing peanuts near to Jimmy Carter?) and continuing with the Ukraine. And the Russia-PRC alliance is far too much for Airstrip 1 and Oceana.
So, since the US can no longer continue as the World Hegemon, will they figure it’s better to have no world at all than a world where the US can no longer be the hegemon? That’s what’s keeping me up at night.
So everybody Ukrainian is a Nazi then? The goal of the alleged “DeNazification” program then is to brainwash people into believing that all Ukrainians are Nazis.
