The Ukraine have said they want the Crimea back and want to impose Ukrainian Law on the Donbass, making the Russian Language and the Russian Orthodox Church illegal with heavy penalties for violations. The US are giving them lots of money and weapons to bring Law and Order back to the whole of the Ukraine, including the Crimea. The US and UK need to send a Light Brigade and a Nightingale ASAP. And the UK say they will kick in as much as they can afford. The US are hoping the Ukrainian military will attack the Donbass (good) or the Crimea (better). The Ukrainian military will not have much luck, but that’s not the point, the point is to get the EU to say they will not buy any more Russian oil or gas, since the Russians are evil. If thousands of poor EU citizens freeze to death, it’s a price well worth paying to cut the Russians off from all foreign trade and all access to ca$h.
As of current date, the Ukrainian military keep saying they will attack as soon as they have enough matériel, but they need more matériel and more cash before they can be ready, and they’re hoping the US will continue forking it over. They don’t seem all that anxious to take on the Russians single-handedly, and are not sure if NATO will give anything except obsolete weaponry.
But the US are working hard to get an excuse to cut Russia off from SWIFT, so the CIA are trying to put something together.
