Perfect! Nailed it.
The challenge isn’t as dorky or wasteful as it seems. It’s a chain event; someone douses themselves, then challenges three other people to either contribute money or douse themselves. And so on, until everyone gets tired of it. It raises money for ALS research and awareness of the disease.
Got to admit, I’d be happier if the Pentagon had to do this to raise money and PR, while ALS automatically got funds and attention. Or if we could get Americans to take the same challenge for other kinds of awareness. “Okay, pour a bucket of water over yourself, or learn something about the difference between Shi’a and Sunni Muslims.”
