reminds me of the one poor american guy who was cook for the freedom fighters of Afghanistan, then they had label changed to “taliban” and the kids was arrested even though he never fired a weapon. the afghans would not allow since he was american to have weapon. i’ll have to find the story
“Insurgents?” Them’s fightin’ words! (I haven’t noticed that change in American coverage, but then, there hasn’t been much coverage of Syria lately. The one report today still calls the violence a “war.”)
Hi, Droopy! Thanks for dropping in. A friend on Google Plus and I were talking about the abrupt change of tone in coverage of Syria by the formerly pro-FSA British Guardian when he made the observation that in media Newspeak, “regime” = “a government we don’t like”. This was something I’d noticed earlier, along with the fact that “rebel” = “freedom fighter ” and “insurgent” = “terrorist”. So, being always on the lookout for inspiration that doesn’t actually involve my having to do any, you know, thinking, I stole the idea immediately.
